The Board of Directors approved a measure that would retire the three units by 2016. The two remaining units would continue to burn coal but be retrofitted with additional emissions controls. The units would eventually convert to run on natural gas by 2023. Nebraska City Station Unit 1 would be retrofitted in 2016. The plan would allow OPPD to reduce emissions and be in compliance with the Mercury and Air Toxics Standards. The plan also calls for OPPD to reduce its load by 300-MW through demand side management.
